Anger, depression, addiction, and discontentment: just a few of the ills that plaque many a man. The solutions: join a group, read a book, basically, YOU can win this battle!

But what about the war? In solely attacking the behaviors or the external problems in our lives the origin of our issues is overlooked. Essentially, we try to alter effects, instead of exploring and tackling the cause. Some don’t realize the root of their problems is internal, in fact spiritual. Others recognize, but underestimate how serious their problems are. And even still, as believers, we trust in ourselves to overcome by our own strength.

Out of a burden to encourage and challenge others, while also confessing his own struggles in this area, Lecrae offers REHAB. Thisl- "Ghetto Memorials"

My husband and I had the privilege to meet Thisl this past week as he was brought here for a concert for a local university. This brother was a real down to earth, humble dude. We sat down and heard his testimony, talked about ministry for him in the hood, as well as how the Lord worked in bringing he and his wife together. Y'all, I was soo encouraged at the end of the night. I just love how the Lord sends people to say things he know we need to hear, when we need to hear it. (Ephesians 4:29) We are hoping to have more fellowship time with him (and hopefully his wifey) in the future. Missing Faces



One of the hardest things about being in a ministry like this is watching kids disappear. I know its nothing personal against us. I don't believe that its because of anything we have done wrong. I DO know it has everything to do with influence. Our kids are up against a culture that doesn't give a crap about them. The pressures of friends and media are weighting heavy upon them. 120 kids show up in our after school program; yet, I can still see that many more are missing. The family isn't the same without them. What are they doing? Many have moved on to junior/ high school and with that comes girls, (and boys) and sports. Others are just close by standing around looking for something to get into. The reality is that their lives are changing, the spear of influence has changed. They could come here and learn something and within an hour its out the door because of what they have to return to.
This makes me want to pursue them more. To let them know they are missed and loved so dearly. I don't know if I can take watching some of the younger ones come up just to have them disappear as well. I really am trying to REMIND myself that God knows best. I trust that He is watching over them all. I trust that the next generation is understanding what is being taught and that they will carry these TRUTHS with them as they grow older. I TRUST that God's word will NEVER return VOID and that there is STILL HOPE for this generation.

Common Ground Montgomery- Fall Program


First day of our Fall program went amazingly well! I was so proud of our kids, they came willing to cooperate with the new way things were set up. I tested at least 6 kids yesterday and they all did so well. This week we will be testing every child who walk through our doors in Reading, Writing, and Spellings. They were tested on letter recommendation, letter and word sounds, and the part they really loved, was when we had to time them to see how many words they could read in minute.( they also had to answer question about what they just read) It was great, just great! Below is a break down of what the program will look like next week until school is out. I am so excited and so thankful for how the LORD has revamped our whole program and has provided so many wonderful ways for us to invest in the next generation. What is happening in the lives of these kids will not only have a huge impact on them but most importantly, it will impact the generations that are to come!

4:14-4:34 Multi- Media (here kids are taught to discern between good and evil in media. We will show or play two songs- i.e. Gucci Mane 'Bricks' vs Thisl 'Crack I Hate You'. Kids are then asked what the songs were about, what message they are communicating and what does the bible say about those messages. The goal and prayer is for our kids to have a biblical worldview)

It's All In The Name

God, a name that is above ALL names. The psalmist calls out to Him, why, because He knew in whom he could find rest, protection, wisdom, shelter, and comfort.


The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
(Psalm 18:10)


God, who's name is a Strong Tower, where we, His saints, are lifted up above our enemies and fortified against them.I trust Him tonight,WE, we as a staff and community place our trust under no other name than the Lord's. Matthew Henry says:


"There is enough in God, and in the discoveries which he has made of himself to us, to make us easy at all times. The wealth laid up in this tower is enough to enrich them, to be a continual feast and a continuing treasure to them. The strength of this tower is enough to protect them; the name of the Lord is all that whereby he has made himself known as God, and our God, not only his titles and attributes, but his covenant and all the promises of it; these make up a tower, a strong tower, impenetrable, impregnable, for all God’s people"



Wow, God is all that for us. We as a community (and staff) believe that and that (and so much more) is why after much prayer and discussion, we have named our church- Strong Tower at Washington Park. We believe God is THE strong tower and we believe that He is that for us right where we are, on the west side of Montgomery in a neighborhood called Washington Park. I prayed tonight that our interest would be in God’s name,I pray that we as a church would go out of ourselves and retire from the world, live above, dwell in God and God in us so that we are safe in Him. God's promise and power is a rock that is higher than us all. That Rock is Jesus Christ. May we all run to Him, for He is the only one that can draw men unto Himself and transform our city.

Working It Out




I'm still here and I can't wait to post the NEWLY revised tutoring schedule we have set up for our ministry! ( and give you ways in which you can be praying for us) Things are moving fast and changing
(yet challenging) soo much. (in a good way) The Lord has all of us on the edge of our seats. My homeschooling days are long and I have been exhausted . (hence as to why I havent been blogging as much, dude..time is not my friend right now)

Please pray I find ways to shorten them and still educate my child properly. Monday our ministry doors are open and all school aged kids return to a program that will hopeful draw them closer to Jesus, give them a biblical worldview and improve their education all at the same time. More on that later, but, until then...

2010-2011 Curriculum Plan

Golly geez, I think I finally got it. I started late(again) this year with trying to figure out what I would do. I spent most of the summer praying and asking the Lord to help me make the best choices for my child. So here it is, our curriculum for this year. Please keep us in your prayers. :)



Bible: Boy, Have I got Problems (Book Of James study) Kay Arthur Inductive Study Series for Kids. (Precept.org)

Math- I decided to continue with Singapore Math. At first I was a little scared of this . LOL! It's very fast paced, and I didn't think my child would do well.But, she did and Math is her favorite subject. (was my worst in school-lol! Thanks Jesus!) It was a success with us last year so its a keeper!

Science- Considering God's Creation by Eagle Wings. I am excited about Science this year. Not only does this teach creation but it also has a section that brings in a Evolution thought and teaches your kids how to debunk it with the Truth! I love that!

English- Building Christian English Series- Rod and Staff

Lit./Reading- Sonlight 2 Reader Packages and Literature ( will go to local library to find most books)

Spelling- Building Spelling Skills- Christian Liberty Press

HIStory- TruthQuest History -American History for Younger Student I (Exploration-1800)

Then Sings My Soul Saturday-My Clothes,My Hair

Are you that church person? How many of us have given those different from us a reason to believe that God is not who He has revealed himself to be according to scripture? Are we too guilty of not loving our neighbors better than ourselves simply because they are different then us? That is what my Then Sings my Soul Saturday is about. The unreached and their heart.

Didn't realize how much we rely on his comp. for everything. (work, pics,vids,homeschooling). It should be up and running,Lord willing this week. These are just some random shots. Boy, there was LOVE in the air this summer. A couple of our interns( and single staff) got they mack on AND may have found their "rib"(wife). :) Be in prayer for these couples; as well as, our staff,- this Monday will begin our annual Fall planning meetings, which will last all week from 8am-5pm. Goons and Goblins?!






The words "Goon" and "Goblin" are famous in the hood. Instead of hearing kids chatter about what they learned in school or read out of a book,you hear famous lines from Little Wayne and Plies.

"Goon"- defined as a real man... originated in Florida
"told her i was a goon and she went for it" -Plies(Song:Shawty)

"Goblin"- defined as class of gangster above a goon. rich,, powerful, yet still from the hood. killing on others below them and has much more authority. usually the head of gangs and has much protection, but always loyal and always keep it real

Once again, I am thankful for Christian Hip Hop artist WHO take the time to produce music that help shape our kids world view. Men who understand the times and know what to do. (1 Chro. 12:22) Check out this video by Json Ft. Thisl and Ad3. The message is simple, yet, strong, God didn't create you to be a goon, a thug, or a lawbreaker; but instead he created you to bring glory to his name. I pray for these artist. That they too will one day understand the TRUTH about who they are and why the Lord created them. It burdens me to see such lives be wasted and more so to see the kids in our hoods want to be just like them.

I get goose bumps when the kids from my hood ride in the car with me and sing along with the chorus. They are learning, and understanding what it means to be created in the Lords likeness! Redemption at its finest people!! God is using this music to IMPACT lives for the Kingdom!!! Nothing about our culture surprises the Lord. I love how HE has a plan to REDEEM and end all foolishness.
Amen to that!
