Trinket to Treasure

"Through LOVE serve one another" -Gal. 5:13

"One another" is a theme that runs throughout the New Testament...So often in our devotional lives, we focus all of our attention on building our relationship with God. We read the scriptures-studying, highlighting, underlining( wow, this is soo me!!) and outlining. We select portions of the bible to memorize, sticking little note cards up on the bathroom mirror and on our computer screens. We fill our hearts and minds with songs of worship and praise. We pray for God's will to be worked out in our lives, for the need of our families, and for the furtherance of His kingdom. We buy books that will help to strengthen our relationship with God. We attend conferences so we can become more knowledgeable, more effective, and more zelalous. With all our heart, we pursue our LORD. And that is all very good, of course. But one of the things God is asking us to do is open up our eyes to the people around us. We are not God's only child. We belong to a large and growing family, which spreads across the whole world. Sometimes it takes a little gentle persuasion to take off our blinders and come out of our prayer closets to see the needs of those around us. Jesus is in heaven now, so He cannot walk among us to touch those who are hurting or in need of encouragement. Instead, He asks us to be His hands and His feet. We are His means of reaching out. God works through us to lift the spirit of those around us."
