He executes justice for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free, the LORD gives sight to the blind, he lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves those who live justly. The LORD watches over the immigrant and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. -Psalm 146:7-9

Who Is Like The LORD!? There Is No One!!!

"For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever.Amen" -Romans 11:36

That verse rang so clear in my head this past Saturday as I was in a car wreck. A group of us were on our way to a Christian Hip Hop Concert and I was in the car with four other ladies. There were 3 other vans full of children and adults from our neighborhood following us. One minute we are in the car jamming to some old MJ tunes the next thing I know the car starts to shake, the tire blows out, we crash and hit the cement median and the car begins to smoke.(FYI-I was not wearing a seat belt for some odd reason,I normally have it on) One my friends nose begins to bleed due to the impact of the air bag. We all walked out of the car with minor bruises nothing serious, PRAISE THE LORD! Emotionally, I believe it took a toll on us. I could not help but keep asking the LORD "WHY"? not why in a sense of "why me" but asking Him that in wanting to know what were HIS PLANS.The way everything happen was unreal. We were just in jammed bumper to bumper traffic and the LORD slows it down to were no other cars were around us to hit us as we spun around the interstate.

For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.....

"Really Lord, what does this mean for me right now,how how was all of this for your GLORY and the good of us all here????"

I struggled throughout the night asking the LORD what He was doing. I wanted to see Him, I longed to see how HE works things out for the good of those whom He loves as well as for many of the non believers that were with us.
After the concert,( oh yea, we continued to attend the concert, we needed all the encouragement we could get,and the LORD used the men of Reach Records to do just that) we took the kids and adults out to eat. At the table one of the moms whom I have began to have a close relationship with begins to tell me what she thought of the concert. Kevin and I have been ministering to her and her children for quite some time now. She begins to explain to me how she told GOD that when the time came for her to be a christian she wanted to be FOREAL about it. She didn't want to have one leg on this side of the fence and one on the other. She wanted her kids to see how serious she was as well. She says, "man, Nicole, I am ready..hearing those guys speak tonight and just being around all of you, and just noticing my kids and how they are acting different from being around positive people, helps me to see that it can be done. I mean, being around you all has helped me in the way I talk and be a parent to my kids, I want to be different She continues to say,"I know its going to be hard and that's what I am so afraid of"

I begin to share with her the power of the LORD and His Holy Spirit that will come and give her the strength she needs to walk it out. I also remind her of the LORDS goodness in bringing us and the Kellys, the Browns as well as Keisha and Joshua to this neighborhood. One of the many reasons, I told her was so that she would have a community of other Christians who would walk along side her and encourage her along the way. She was grinning from ear to ear. We ended our conversation because others started to join us. Pray for me as I follow up with her this week.

I sat in amazement and thankfulness to the LORD at how he was answering my prayers.

"For from Him and through Him and to Him are all

The night comes to an end and as I am sitting in silence just thinking about all that has happen,as I look around at everyone I begin to ponder on how precious, and short life is. We never know what each moment holds. But the LORD does,he knew what would happen in the next moment as I sat there, He knew what HE wanted to do in the hearts of many through the car accident from earlier.

Another mom who attended the concert with us begins to ask me how I was holding up. I tell her I am ok, still a little shaken but I am ok. I begin so share with her the goodness of the LORD and just how things could have turned out differently, a lot of other people could have been hurt. But our GOD, He is a protector. Her exact words to me where "you know what Nicole, now I believe that, I believe that He is real and that is His powerful..I believe God wanted me to see you all in that accident..watching you all after it happen and seeing what I saw, shows me that there is a GOD out there."

We are not sure if she is a believer, but that night, the LORD did something in the hearts of both of these women. I shake as I type this because my mind cannot comprehend the ways of the LORD!! Who is LIKE HIM?! WHO IS THIS KING Of GLORY!?
That day, that accident was in the hands of a Sovereign LORD! Of course I believed that, I know that, but to hear it, to see it all unfold just does something to your faith! I could not believe the LORD used us like that. Something so difficult and painful for some the LORD used it to reveal HIMSELF. PRAISE THE LORD FOR CHOOSING TO REVEAL HIMSELF TO US ALL!!
The LORD did not have to answer my prayers, But HE DID. Even if He didn't I would still say He is Good and His mercy endures forever!! How great is our GOD!

To Him be the GLORY forever Amen.

I'm A Believer

We took a group of 30 plus to the Dont Waste Your Life Tour in B'ham this past Saturday and words can not even describe to you the encouragement the LORD had for us there. You remember the ten year old I was telling you about last week who became a believer!? Well, the song I want to play for you had her in tears as she explained to me yet again about the joy she has in her heart, as well as how confident she is with knowing that she will be with the LORD one day. The understanding the LORD has given this girl blows my mind!!! When you see her and talk with her you can't help but notice her JOY in THE LORD..whew!! Makes ya girl want to do a funky spin for Jesus!!! (ahahha)

Anyway, the music below was written by Tedashi. (or known to some of you as T-Dot from the 116 Clique and Reach Records fam.)I love this song, because it encourages me to say with BOLDNESS and JOY that I am a believer. It reminds me who I am ( my identity) and it convicts of those times I have looked for my identity in other things outside of what Christ has purchased me to be!

I exhort you to listen with much joy and praise!
**Remember to check over to right for my prayer request.I covet your prayers :)

I'm a believer
we gotta let them know
to all GODS people
I'm a believer

Verse 1 (Tedashii):
This right here don't make no sense/you ain't gotta guess baby that I'm His/
Crucified, died, now alive in Him/I done put my faith in Him hommie till the end/
Now the new life, I live in Christ/It's because of Him, ya boy shine so bright/
You can keep the ring and the chains and the ice/camps main campaign ain't to pop champagne/that's lame/
No game hommie I rep Christ/you can peep my lyrics and the way that I write/
I surrendered everything, even my rights/I count it all lost just so I can know Christ/
Or better yet baby so that He can know me/as a son coming home from prodigal to free/
Free from my sin that's the end of my grief/I'm a believer so best believe this me/
Even at the cross Jesus took my place/He didn't deserve it, I guess that's what you call faith/
I did deserve it, I guess that's what you call grace/He did it for certain and garaunteed my place/
In Him, and then seated me on high/in the end baby I'll be caught up in the sky/
On a dime, in the twinkling of an eye, I'll be found in the air with my saviour Jesus Christ/

I'm a believer
I'm a believer no doubt
I'm a believer yeah yeah
I'm a believer hear me out yeah
I'm a believer hey
I'm a believer hey hey

he came in my life
and i never thought twice
he's all that i have
and I'm willing to fight
i stare at them like

that I'm a believer

Verse 2 (Trip Lee):
Some might know me as a rapper some might know me as a southern dude
Others as a black man, but first I got another crew
Ever since I heard the Gospel message how the Son was bruised
I got a new identity, it's like your boy's another dude
We ain't undercover brother, come and see us trust the truths
That we stand under brother, other things adjust and move
Some say we dumb for trusting Christ, they say we just some fools
But you can check His grave if you want it proved, ooh
We ain't perfect at all nah we recognize this life's hard
The difference is instead of drowning, we trust the life guard
We fight hard, but with the right perspective as we walk this
It's Christ, He works in us like a office, so I'm a believer

Verse 3:
So in the end, hey this is me/I ain't that cat that you seen on TV/
I ain't that rapper, model, actor, baller/none of them defines me/
I'm a believer, known to the One that exist in three/
Co-heir to the kingdom, that means I'm the king's son/partner that's what defines me/
Identity/crucified, choose to die, now the life that I live not I/
But it's this flesh, He laid to rest/through faith by grace I live through Christ/
(Trip Lee):
I'm quite sure your mama told you not trust just anybody
But tell me who is like the Lord? Not anybody
I took a look at Him in the Scriptures, this really got me
He keeps His promises, even though cats be living sloppy
Look at His love, and His grace, and His just mercy
I was dirty, till I trusted Him who's trustworthy

All In A Weeks Work

Wow..what a week..I promise to update you on our summer camp and ministry building next week. I have never been this tired in my life. I have been challenged and stretched and challenged some more. The LORD is doing some serious tilling in my heart.
I was summoned to jury duty this week. I struggled a great deal with that this week, it really had me all emotional. I wanted to live Micah 6:8 out so LOUDLY in that court room. We ended up not having to go through with the case. Which made me both sad and happy. Sad and afraid that this young fellow would not get a fair trial. Happy that I did not have to play apart in his sentencing. May the LOrd have mercy on His soul..And what were the odds of him being caught a couple of blocks up from where we live??!!!
In my neighborhood!!!

We are canceling our girls portion of the summer camp tomorrow due to rude, disrespectful, and manipulative behavior..uh, yea..its been crazy..t...

please keep the kids in our hood in your prayers...its the summer, so you know what that means..more gun shots. (one guy was killed in one of our housing projects over some tennis shoes!!!) more robberies, more random fights, more trouble for these kids to get into..pray as well for the strength and wisdom for our summer interns

Have a Restful weekend :)

Whats Your Definition Of Ministry??

I read this quote on a friends Facebook profile and I was just blown away with conviction and encouragement..

"Ministry is giving when you feel like keeping, praying for others when you need to be prayed for, feeding others when your own soul is hungry, living truth before people even when you can't see results, hurting with other people even when your own hurt can't be spoken, keeping your word even when it is not convenient, it is being faithful when your flesh wants to run away."
-Pastor Norwood

How would you define Ministry?

Go Buck With The Angels!!!!!

In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Lk 15:10

Please be in prayer for one of the girls in our camp. (10 years old) She shared with us this morning during devotionals how and why she decided to give up the life she was living to live for the one who created her in His image. As we talked,She begin to weep about her need for a SAVIOR, not just any Savior but the LORD JESUS CHRIST!! That was soo encouraging to me. (**goose bumps is not even the word**) We rejoice over this new life, and we BELIEVE that is it VERY genuine. We have watched the LORD soften her little heart for the past year now. It was amazing to hear her communicate the gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit. I have never witnessed anything like this before, what a joy and honor it is to watch Jesus work it out in the hood.

Not Blogging Often

Hey Friends!
I just don't have time to blog as much as I would like right now due to how involved I am with the girls camp this summer. With that said, I will sporadically blog off and on as much as time allows. I will be back soon to blog consistently to give you a update on all that we have going on as well as many pictures. PLEASE keep us in your prayers, we have already hit some bumps as the camp really just officially began yesterday. The LORD loves to reveal HIMSELF to us, so we are just rejoicing and learning how to see him in the life of the kids and neighbors we minister to. Pray for unity amongst our staff and team as well as strength in the LORD as our summer days are very long and tiring.
Thanks again

A Timely Visit

Berniece is a well known, heavy, drug addict in our neighborhood. She is known for her thieving ways as well as for all the lies she loves to tell. However, she has no problem telling you when she has lied and what she has lied about. We don't get to see her as much as we did when she lived down the street in one of the drug homes on our block..but when we do,we have the best time with her. She is so funny! Kevin says, it trips him out how she manages to "pop" at the funniest times. Last night she came by and we were just ending our dinner with the staff and interns. She had everyone laughing and smiling. After sharing many of her stories about prison and smoking crack, one of our interns begin to pray for her. This brought her to tears.Throughout the night she begin to share, with those of us who were still there, how she is tired of living in the streets. She wants out of the lifestyle she is living and just cant bring herself to stop. Now,we have in the past known her to tell many lies. But, for some reason I believe this time to be so different then when she has claimed she wanted to change before. Kevin asked her where was she living, she responded with "wherever I can lay my head..which is everywhere". She ate a little bit and then begin to share with me in the kitchen how she really wants to change, she says "you know,I know in order for me to change, I have to be around people that are different, who are doing better things with their life". I told her how she was ALWAYS welcomed to come and be around us. She beings to cry again and talk about how when she was standing outside our door ready to knock, one of our other neighbors begin to tell her to leave us alone, and that she didn't need to come into our home bothering us. Of course, Berniece was like "woman please".. Many of our neighbors are concerned about us and the Kellys. They say we are naive, and we let many of the people in our neighborhood walk over us because of the love we show them. But, we cant help but to think about what Jesus words were in Luke 14:12-14

Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

We pray one day they will understand. I'm glad I let her in because I was reminded what wondrous love the Father has for us through her being in my home. She asked us if she could call her daughter who lived near by. Berniece, wanting us to listen so that she could prove that the things she was saying to us were true, put her daughter on speaker phone and once she said hello her daughter begin to say with so much concern and excitement,"Oh mama, you have just made my day, I am so glad to hear from you,you just don't know how this makes my day" A daughters love and concern for her mom who had abandoned her at a young age for drugs had not changed. Her son then picks up and adds to the excitement and thankfulness of hearing his mothers voice. My heart just ached. They wanted her to know how well they were doing. Her daughter is a senior in high school. A star on the basketball team, she has dreams of going to the WNBA. She told her mom, "mama, do you see how well I am doing, you don't have to be on those streets, I am doing this for all of us, so we can have a better life" Berniece just cried. She asked them could she come see them and they said "of course". Kevin told her he would take her to their home, afterward, he asked to speak to her son. He thanked my husband for looking after his mom and for having her in our home. Berniece, thanked us and talked about how she loved us and our friends because she never feels judged. She continued to tell us how she knows that no matter what she does she knows she can always come here and share how she feels about her life and know that there will be people here to listen to her.

I am so thankful and overwhelmed at the LORD and all HE does. I really cant say that enough. I woke up this morning praying for Berniece and her drug addiction. Then I begin to thank the LORD for giving me another picture of how He accepts us,no matter what our background and past is. He forgives the worst sin. He left his heavenly home to dwell amongst people that the world would have wanted nothing to do with. He is a restore of Hope for all who would believe in Him. Please continue to pray for the salvation of Berniece and all her children.

Considering It Joy

There is so much going on, I cant even begin to explain. I will however say, we have an enemy who is not pleased with 80 or so, kids hearing the gospel preached to them all summer. We are up against a few trials, that could have placed us in a position to delay our camp tomorrow...but we wont even give him the satisfaction. The LORD is in control of this thang. Would you please keep us in your prayers this week. Pray for humility, peace, and wisdom from above. Pray for consistent unity amongst us all throughout the summer( just because that is always good to pray..we have the BEST team ever!!)Pray as well for B.K. as he had to travel to preach at his step fathers funeral. Pray for Delta as well, as she is left here with their 4 boys. Grace to you all.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
-Ephesians 6:12

who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.-1 Peter 1:5-7

Trying To Keep Up

Life is crazy here on Westcott right now! Its the summer, and with the summer comes, kids up early to play at your house, kids running in and out of your house, summer camp, girls dressing immodestly, prostitutes walking the streets, random guns shots all through out the day and night, police busts,so on and so on. With all that is going on, the temptation could be to not rest,to worry, to become overwhelmed with it everything. Now, by no means am I saying I have it all together and that I don't become overwhelmed with it all, in fact, as I was sitting at a neighbors house the other day, I watched her hamster run repeatedly on his wheel, and I thought "just like this hamster, I cant keep up with it all..my God, this is a bit much"

But later on that day, and tonight for that matter, I begin to think about how its not meant for me to keep up...its not meant for me to try to have it "all together", its not meant for me to keep everything "perfect" along with the life the LORD has called my family to live. I mean, we from the beginning have wanted, and still do, to see the face of Jesus. We see him when we cant rely on our own strength, when we noticed we cant keep it all together, when we know we are inadequate for the task that lies ahead of us.
Dependent:relying on or requiring a person or thing for support, supply, or what is needed;contingent on something else

Dependence is the key to see the LORD in every moment of our day. Its not that we need to fail to see Jesus, because there is no such thing, when you have the Cross of Christ that has covered every "failure" you will ever have, what I am learning is that, its in those moments of weakness I find myself calling out to this SAVIOR of mine.
So,for me,I pray its the same for you, the chaos in your life will turn into a sign of encouragement and joy because, here you are provided with endless opportunities to see Jesus and rely completely on Him for strength, rest, and help!
Again,I believe for me, the chaos is a reminder from the LORD that we,as a family, are providentially, right where we should be. :)

Promises to Claim:

"In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling."
-Exodus 15:13

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me-"
Psalm 23:4

"But now, this is what the LORD says- he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God.."
- Isaiah 43:1-3

This was funny and very cute to me! Have a great weekend Saints!

The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life

"You don't find it difficult to trust the Lord with the management of the universe. Can your situation be so complex that you need to be anxious about His management of you? Put such conceited ideas out of your mind! Take your stand on the power and trustworthiness of your God, and see how quickly all doubts will vanish before a steadfast determination to believe. Trust God in the dark and in the light; trust Him at night and in the morning. Although such faith may require a great effort to begin with, it will sooner or later become easy, natural, and habitual."

Okay...has anyone ever read this book before!!?? Oh my MY GOODNESS..'wherest thou have been all my life??!!!!" (lol) I can not begin to share how encouraged I have been in reading this book. Its almost to the point that as I read my bible the scriptures are alive...really...like I am beginning to take GODS PROMISES literally! Is this not how God wants his children to live..off of every word that he gives us..

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Matthew 4

Hannah Whithall Smith was prompted to write this book when an agnostic said to her, "You Christians seem to have a religion that makes you miserable. You are like a man with a headache. He doesn't want to get rid of his head, but it hurts him to keep it" Stung by that criticism, this Quaker housewife realized for the first time that the Christian faith was meant to make it followers happy, not miserable....

This reminds me so much of John Piper's teachings on Christian Hedonism which says:
"Christian Hedonism teaches that the desire to be happy is God-given and should not be denied or resisted but directed to God for satisfaction. Christian Hedonism does not say that whatever you enjoy is good. It says that God has shown you what is good and doing it ought to bring you joy (Micah 6:8). And since doing the will of God ought to bring you joy, the pursuit of joy is an essential part of all moral effort. If you abandon the pursuit of joy (and thus refuse to be a Hedonist, as I use the term), you cannot fulfill the will of God."

I am learning so far that a few of the secrets to this happy life is TOTAL TRUST, SURRENDERED LIVING, and FAITH. The Christian life described in the scriptures is one of abiding REST and CONTINUAL victory. The Bible shows us a Savior who is able to save us from the power of sin as surely as He saves us from the penalty. Being a wife and mom is very challenging..you throw in missionary living in the hood and boy..you get a REAL crazy picture! Crazy in a sense of life being very busy, frustrating, weary, and uh, confusing..The Lord in His goodness, is reminding me in the midst of chaos, what FAITH is. Faith is simply BELIEVING GOD. Its not a possession, nor is it a religious exercise,or attitude of the heart. You know you have faith when you believe something. Faith is simply nothing more or less than just believing God. When He says in His word that He has done something for us, or that he will do it, I am learning that I MUST TRUST Him to do it!!

The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.-Psalm 29:11

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.-Philippians 4:5-7

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.- Psalm 23:6

No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly-Psalm 84:11

In her book Hannah talks about how, we all have trusted very important tasks to other people..mothers trust their precious babies to the care of relatives without great anxiety,we trust our health and lives EVERYDAY to cooks, bus drivers mechanics, engineers who built our cars, and all sorts of workmen who could kill us or ruin our lives in an instant, either deliberately or by a moment's carelessness. Just imagine how crazy and disastrous that would be to get up in the morning and not do anything because you decided that you would not have any more faith in any of the things stated about. Because they all take faith in order to live out, and we do it without any doubting or questioning. That blows my mind to think about that..how in the world do I place my trust in my bed to keep me off the floor as I sleep, but I cant trust my Savior to carry me throughout the day??? I am learning to let my faith confirm all of God's promises, moment by moment, believing Him to see me through every trial. Its time that as Christians we stop murmuring about all our issues and pains and take the LORD at HIS word!! In this, we shall all have the peace that surpasses all understanding and happiness that the LORD wants His children to have in HIM! Be Encouraged Saints! You are a BELIEVER!!!!!

The Ethnic Enemy—No Greek or Jew . . . Barbarian, Scythian: The Gospel and Ethnic Difference

"Love of the ethnic enemy—of every enemy—is what must characterise the church as the body of those who were themselves enemies of God and were reconciled through his love precisely when they were enemies and as enemies, in order that they should be enemies no longer (Rom 5:10). Having received that love and experiencing now its transforming power, God's own people can and must demonstrate it in the quality of their common life and in their engagement with a world of ethnic discord. Such love demonstrates grace and pardon. It pursues truth, justice, and peace across ethnic divides in society as well as in the church and personal relationships. It is radically countercultural—and dangerous. It is not natural but extraordinary and an affront to conventional human wisdom, exactly as the Samaritan's love was, and the Father's. But it is that very outrageous and supernatural character which brings conviction and the only true and lasting hope of communion beyond ethnicity, for 'by this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35).

Read this article in its totality here. May we look to the Cross of Christ to break down every barrier that divides His church.

CGM Community Garden Workday

The Seeds Of Hope workday was such a success. I will go out tomorrow with one of the Master Gardeners, and a few neighbors and we will begin to plant some of our herbs and vegetables. We are so excited! There is much going on in our neighborhood and ministry..Its the summer so as you can imagine Kevin and Bk are swamped with work. Please, Please keep our Summer Camp and the Interns in your prayers. We opened camp this evening with a Staff/Intern Dinner at the Kellys and it was soo encouraging. I almost wanted to cry as I looked around at everyone and thought of the HOPE and POSSIBILITIES our hood has, as the LORD continues to send more to come out and labor beside us!

I will be sure to inform you on our Summer Camp later on. Great Day! :)
