He executes justice for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free, the LORD gives sight to the blind, he lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves those who live justly. The LORD watches over the immigrant and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. -Psalm 146:7-9

Witnessing the Spirit Work

1 Corinthians 3:5-10

5" What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. 7 So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it."

Romans 10:14
"How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?

Tonight's teen girl bible study was great! I love the fact that these girls are opening up, asking more questions, and are being real honest about where they stand with the LORD~ ( one girl, loudly confessed" I know, I am not a Christian") Anyway, tonight's topic was "How will you respond?" (after hearing a clear gospel message)
The girl were so ready for tonight, of course they were silly at times, but they came with some real honest, challenging questions. We sat around and talked about different reason's as to why people dont' become christians and we discussed bible passages along with all of them. In addition, we talked through what it would look like practically for them if they professed christianity. Though these girls seemed very distracted at times, I really saw the LORD tugging at their hearts over the decision to follow HIM, and to submit under His LORDSHIP. The scripture passages above is what I believe the LORD is asking of Delta and I. All He wants is for us to be available to be used by Him, to faithfully minister the TRUTH to these young girls, and to KNOW that it will be ALL HIM and the POWER of HIS SPIRIT that will cause these girls to grow and hunger for a relationship with HIM. I love that because it helps us to take the focus and responsibility off of ourselves. As a friend and I always say, "This is HIS KINGDOM and it is up to HIM to BUILD it however HE pleases!" Here are some quotes from last night.. Please continue to pray for our girls..Pray especially for the new babies that will be born to them over the next couple of weeks and month.

The question asked: "Will you Repent and Believe"?

: "Yea, I''ll repent and believe...I think God will love for me to believe in His word and to follow in His path..pray for me to be closer to God and help lead me the way and everyone to believe in God's word"

"I think so (repent and believe)"

"(Will you repent and believe?): I will try... Pray for me and my family and pray for me to get closer to God. Just pray for everything.."Ya feel me"

"yes, It's time 2 be better because I am learning more about God that i didn't know."

**One more thing...Please be in prayer for our neighborhood..there was a young girl murdered and found dead in the rest room of the park where we had our back yard bible club. It's being said that she was a prostitute. How sad.

Truth shall set you Free

One of the BIGGEST things that spur me on is christians standing for TRUTH at all cost for the sake of the gospel!! My new "friend" Kelly has just posted a faith provoking, blog post that you have got to read. I pray that we all speak the TRUTH in LOVE LOUDLY to all those around us!

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.--Romans 12

A Camping we will go!!

I am sitting here nearly in tears!! My heart is filled with such joy!! Kevin and BK are taking about 18 boys off to North Carolina to Camp Arrowhead I wish you all can see the look of excitement on their faces right now!!! Many of them will be spending the night here at our home as the rest are down at Bk and Delta's. It is priceless!! They are all so sweet, and such little servants! ( as I type this one is quoting Romans 6:23 to kevin- and this same little fellow just finished mowing our yard..he said he wanted to do it for free because of all the love kevin has shown him this summer)
Would you pray with me that Jesus reveal himself to them this week. Pray as well for Kevin and Bk as they seek to serve, counsel and encourage all the boys this week!! Pray as well for traveling grace!

The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.-Psalm 145:18

Jesus thank you so much for giving these guys the opportunity to getaway for such a fun, encouraging time!! I am so excited for them, thank you as well for giving me the honor to see faces of joy, and contentment and excitement..This helps me to better understand why it's important for my husband to obey you in his calling in this ministry! wow!!! Would you please encamp angels around them to keep them safe as they travel..and please, if it's your will..bring them back safely. Amen

CGM Weekly Update July 2008

Today we had 41 of our neighborhood kids participate in a ‘backyard bible club’ at
a local park a few hundred yards from our homes. After dropping some of the boys off, I
realized that two of our kids were missing so I le? to pick them up around 9 a.m. As I
approached my street a 13 year‐old boy came running towards my car. He jumped in and
looked terrified. He said, “Coach, I just almost got killed!”. He was coming out of his door to come to our event
and a car pulled up to his house and executed a ‘drive by’ shooting. 5 bullets whizzed by him as he came outside of
his door. His uncle apparently shot someone from a rival gang the previous night and the car came by this morning
to repay the act. They didn’t care that he wasn’t involved, or that he was just a kid. He took‐off running and turned
the corner where I was looking for him and another girl on my street. We pray constantly that God would put us in
the lives of boys like him ‘at just the right time'. It is a blessing to us to be postured to intercede in these boys and
girls lives. He does not know our Lord…yet.

According to Scripture, ‘at just the right time’, at our darkest
time in history, at the place of our greatest need, Jesus showed up on our behalf. He left the best ‘gated’ community in all
creation, and came down to our world to intervene in our lives. He was very intentional about it, and committed Himself to a
level of voluntary suffering on behalf of those he loves that, thankfully, has never been and doesn’t need to be reproduced. It was enough, or as He put it, “It is finished”. But, the apostle Paul said that he was “filling up what was lacking in the afflictions of Christ” through his ministry. What is wonderful is that
Christ continues to ‘show up’ at places of deep need through His ‘Body’, the people of God. Our joy is that we get to voluntarily and intentionally ‘show up’ this way in others’ lives by His power and through His leadership. We all have that opportunity for this kind of joy. Please pray for this young man and the others in our community
that face these type of attacks from the ‘one’ who wishes to steal from them, kill them, and destroy them. This young man has just come into our lives over the past few weeks and will be attending the boys’ camp in the mountains with us next week.
Please pray for him and for us as we share the Gospel of Christ with him and the other boys.

Please pray for our families and us over this next week. Kevin and I are taking 18 boys from the neighborhood to the mountains of North Carolina for a one‐week long camping trip. We are partnering with Desire Street Ministries in
New Orleans and 40 of their boys. This will be an extremely fun time with a strong Christ centered
emphasis. Please be praying for the boys, as it will be a good end to our 10‐week summer camp.
We have grown to love these boys deeply, and this extended time away with them will be very important to sum up our
summer and have a lot of one on one talks with them to clarify where they stand in light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We
anticipate this to be a life changing time in light of all of the ‘planing and watering’ we have done in their
lives over the last few months.

We now have the land secured to build our ministry facility right down the street from our homes. For
those of you that have been praying for us and following our plight in this, it has been a five‐month
process to get two lots side by side with a clear title! When 40% of the properties are vacant or
condemned you wouldn’t think this would be the case, but it is. We now have another month and a half
of rezoning requests and submidng building plans and then we can actually get started with the building.
We will be building a ministry facility that will include our offices, a large kitchen, a good size living‐room
style meeting area, a small computer lab, and a 2000 square foot open multi‐purpose ‘room’ for
assemblies, bible‐studies, tutoring, movie nights, dance and arts classes, job training, neighborhood
dinners, etc. The back yard will have a basketball court, a one‐tunnel badng cage, and some small
playground equipment. We will be able to start our long awaited and much needed after school tutoring
program once this building is finished as well.

Food for thought

"1 Peter 4:8–9 says, "Above all hold unfailing your love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins. Practice hospitality ungrudgingly to one another."

Ungrudgingly! That means, be the kind of people who do it and like to do it! In other words the command to be hospitable is not just a command to do something. It is not just a command that can be legalistically fulfilled with a quota of guests. It is a command to be a certain kind of person, namely, the kind that doesn't resent having to be hospitable. The kind of person who doesn't look at the extra dishes and bedding and bother—and grumble. "Practice hospitality ungrudgingly to one another." Without murmuring. As the next verse (4:10) implies, let your hospitality be an extension or an overflow of God's hospitality to you. Be a good steward of God's grace.....
the most natural thing in the world is to neglect hospitality. It is the path of least resistance. All we have to do is yield to the natural gravity of our self-centered life, and the result will be a life so full of self that there is no room for hospitality. We will forget about it. And we will neglect it. So the Bible bluntly says, "Stop that!" Build a launching pad. Fill up your boosters. And blast out of your self-oriented routine. Stop neglecting hospitality. Practice hospitality." - John Piper

Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality.

Romans 12:9-13

Hospitable God

"Christmas is the perfect time to reflect upon the fact that our Lord was received by His creatures in a most inauspicious manner. Despite the lack of hospitality extended upon His birth, He lived His life as hospitality incarnated. He came to turn strangers into friends, to reconcile us to Him, and to extend to us the promise of a wedding feast in heaven--a celebration to last forever. For these reasons, we are called to imitate our hospitable Lord and to use our homes as evangelistic outposts to further His gospel purposes.....
Hospitality fleshes out love in a uniquely personal and sacrificial way. Through the ministry of hospitality, we share our most prized possessions. We share our family, home, finances, food, privacy, and time. Indeed, we share our very lives. So, hospitality is always costly. Through the ministry of hospitality, we provide friendship, acceptance, fellowship, refreshment, comfort, and love in one of the richest and deepest ways possible for humans to understand. Unless we open the doors of our homes to one another, the reality of the local church as a close-knit family of loving brothers and sisters is only a theory. .”—Alexander Strauch, The Hospitality Commands

It's comments like the one above that encourages me to keep the doors of my home open. Yes, it's draining to have people in and out of your home all day, Yes, it's very nice at times to get away from it all...BUT, I want to be at a place where I am not complaining, whining, having a serious attitude at others because I feel as if I have (noticed I said I-clearly i think it's all about me) made some huge sacrifice in moving on the west side; Therefore, someone owes me a vacation.. I want to humbly accept those things as gifts, treasures, privileges from the LORD. The LORD has graciously called us to serve HIM in this neighborhood, I HAVE TO REMEMBER that I am here to reflect back to others the glory(goodness) HE reflects to me. How can they see that glory (goodness) if I keep my home, possessions, ect at a distance. I love the fact that I can watch people come into my home and take off their shoes and prop their feet up on the couch, they can come over to visit, and decided at the last minute "hey, we will spend the night"( without feeling rushed to leave) or after inviting them over for dinner, they decide to stay around longer and talk to wee hours in the night.. Relationships require some serious INVESTING-- though it's hard work...it's so worth it!!

Father, please forgive me for complaining about this life YOU have chosen for us to have. Please continue to give Kevin and I the grace to guard our family nights and date nights. As we continue to keep our family first, this opens up the doors for us to minister greatly to ALL those around us. Help me to not run away from it all but to eagerly, joyously, faithfully embrace our ministry. What an honor to serve you through my neighbors! Amen!!!

The Love of God

I am up so late, too late... but for a joyous reason. Delta and I ended bible study tonight with the girls at 10:15pm.. Kevin came in from his study with the guys and I began to share with him what happen tonight ( long story short because my eyes are like hitting my chin from sleepiness ) I told him about a prayer request that one of the girls left on her paper.. He challenged me to call her.. so anyway, i called her we talked and the it was confirmed my friends (after a 1 1/2) that she has indeed became a CHRISTIAN!!!!!! I am in love with our Savior.. not sure at what point she became a christian..she says she believe it was sometime before our bible study, but she said before she started meeting with us, she was headed down the wrong path again.. I believe the LORD used delta's lesson and the past bible study's to give her a clear picture of what a TRUE CHRISTIAN looks like; as a result, she is more than willing to walk this thang out!!
please be in prayer for her and her family.. they are going through A LOT!!!
God is so sovereign, what providence to bring us into a relationship with the teenagers on our block, for them to introduce us to this girl and her sister and for them to be apart of this bible study... What a way to end the night, or shall I say begin my morning!
thanks all!!

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
- Luke 15:7

Bad aint Good

We are three weeks into our evangelistic bible study with the teen girls in our neighborhood. I can't even begin to explain to you the burden delta and I are feeling for these girls. To recap, this is what our talks have been about:
Week 1: we allowed the girls to describe to us their "perfect man". We then used that time to teach them about the character of God and how Christ has all those character qualities that they are looking for.
Week 2: We discussed "How do you view Jesus and God?" Jesus has to either be "Liar, Lunatic, or LORD". Which is He to you?
Which brings us to Week 3, which was this past Wednesday. Our discussion that night was on How does God view man?
Basically we lead the girls through many bible passages on the deceitfulness of the heart, and SIN.( not doing things because you "feel" like doing them) We discussed many verses in Romans such as 3:23;6:23, and 10:9. In addition we also discussed what exactly does it mean to be a christian and call JESUS LORD of your life.We really didn't want these girls to leave my house without having a clear picture of where they stood before the LORD. Delta and I are not sure what the LORD is doing in their hearts, we really have no clue. When we talk to them it's like pulling teeth at times. I invited them to church with us on Sunday, and how about they all came. I was encouraged about that, they even told me afterwards that they really enjoyed it and that they wouldn't mind returning.WOW!
At the end of the bible study I asked the girls to write down for me any prayer request, questions or comments about our study..
I also told them not to feel any pressure in writing their names on the paper.. here are some of the things they said:

".....please pray that my parents would stop taking me and my sister through this( she didn't specify what "this" was) ...pray for all the sins surrounding me and the sins that are within me ....."

"....just pray for me and my family..I love ya'll so much,ya'll are really the best thing that happened to me so just pray for me and my family"

"yes I have sin but the more I try to do right thing time after time something just keeps going wrong. I wish I was better but I think 2 get me where I need 2 be in life and have God in my life is to leave home .There not much in my home about God"

Three out of the five in our study is pregnant. Two have suffered a miscarriage. The youngest is 16. The oldest is 19. All five are searching for significance, fulfillment, love and acceptance, through boys, money, and sex. The power of the HOLY SPIRIT, and the LOVE of Christ are the only things that can break them free from their master-SIN. Please continue to pray for our relationships with these girls. Pray most importantly that they will come to grips with CHRIST all satisfying LOVE for them and that they will break the cycle of teenage pregnancy.
The song below was what I used as an introduction to our study. I had the lyrics printed out and we discussed the wages of sin... (see lyrics below music player.. YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS...so relevant to the culture)

God is at work my friends.. pray that delta and I will always remember that :)

BAD AINT GOOD by : Flame

Bad Aint Good - Flame
**please note these are just the lyrics of the last verse in the song:

".....The Bible calls it sin
You see that's our nature
It's like a pig in a pin
They'll pass a steak up
Just to eat slop
Cause that's what pigs eat
And see we pig people
So we like seeing meat
That's why we run to wrong
Because it feels right
Sin's got our mind gone
We break through this omen through Christ
See it's got our affections and it's got our desires
The more we run into sin it's like fueling the fire
And just like a fire
It's never satisfied
And it's been burning everything around since Adam died
When he ate from the fruit
In the garden of Eden
Genesis 3, but we get a pardon through Jesus
John 3:16 is the heart of this freedom
See those are Bible chapters
I pray to God that you read them
Trust me, while you still in the hood
You can get made right and wrong won't keep feeling good"

Girly Girls!!

I am so thankful for our church family. Kevin and I have been members of Eastwood for what, 7 or 8 years now? ( I may be a little off) Anyway, this summer our Vacation Bible School used Common Ground as their focus. They taught the kids from out of the book of Nehemiah (which is one of my husbands favorite books) and incorporated Common Ground to teach the children what the LORD is doing through us on the west side of Montgomery. As service projects, the sixth grade boys built a swing set in the Kellys back yard, to see what it looks like click here. In addition, for kaiya the sixth grade girls built a trunk for all her pretend play as well as a table with chairs for tea parties.. Here are just a few pictures of the amazing job they did! Kaiya and "B" have so much fun with the newly added furniture!! Thank you again Eastwood for all your love and encouragement!!!
ps- the chocolate chip cookies the girls are eating where prepared by the sixth grade girls as well, so yummy!!!! :)

Streams in the Desert

They will soar on wings like eagles.(Isaiah 40:31)

"There is a fable about the way birds first got their wings. The story goes that initially they were made without them. Then God made the wings, set them down before the wingless birds, and said to them, "Take up these burdens and carry them". The birds had sweet voices for singing, and lovely feathers that glistened in the sunshine, but they could not soar in the air. When asked to pick up the burdens that lay at their feet, they hesitated at first. Yet soon they obeyed, picked up the wings with their beaks, and set them on their shoulders to carry them. For short time the load seemed heavy and difficult to bear, but soon, as they continued to carry the burden and to fold the wings over their hearts, the wings grew attached to their little bodies. They finally quickly discovered how to use them and were lifted by the wings high into the air. The weights had become wings. This is a parable for us. We are the wingless birds, and our duties and tasks are the wings God uses to lift us up and carry us heavenward. We look at our burdens and heavy loads, and try to run from them, but if we carry them and tie them to our hearts, they will become wings. And on them we can then rise and soar toward God. There is no burden so heavy that when lifted cheerfully with love in our hearts will not become a blessing to us. God intends for our tasks to be our helpers; to refuse to bend our shoulders to carry a load is to miss a new opportunity for growth. J. R. Miler
No matter how overwhelming, any burden God has lovingly placed with His own hands on our shoulders is a blessing." Frederick William Faber

Father, I am tired. I am weak, and I am selfish. It just amazes me how you are so perfect in your timing to give the perfect word to your children. Ministry can be so draining, but of course you know that. YOU KNEW what we would be faced with when YOU CALLED our FAMILIES into this neighborhood. YOU KNEW how the people here would flock to us, searching for something they didn't know they had a NEED for. We see how you are providing them with Christ love through us. Please forgive me for not totally depending on you for strength.. YOUR strength is so perfect when our strength is gone. Would you please teach us how to carry the burdens of the people without being burned out. Would you please give delta and I faith the size of a mustard seed to know that you will do above and beyond all that we think or could imagine. What joy to know that you are here with us. We say bring it on Jesus, whatever it takes to conform us into Christ image, bring it on. To God be the Glory. Amen!!!!!

Wonder Working Power

"Self control doesn't just happen. We can't adopt the indifferent attitude" let go and let God" and expect magically to become self-controlled. Self control requires effort. However, development of this quality is not soley dependent upon us. we cannot acquire this virtue by our own strength. It is only as we cooperate with the power of the Holy Spirit that we will achieve self control. our growth will take place as it did with Paul who said." For this I toil, struggling with all energy tht he powerfully works within me" (col. 1:29)........We are in a fierce battle-confronting sin from within and temptations from without. But God provides a means of protection in this war. He wants to encircle us with a wall that can withstand the onslaught on all three fronts. That wall is self-control.... The first step in constructing this wall of self-control is to acknowledge one simple yet hideous fact about ourselves: We like to sin!!!"
- Carolyn Mahaney

Ya'll this battle is so real, and HARD... oh, my goodness it's hard. I love control. I do, I love to act like I am God and do things because i want to, because I believe the LIE that I can. What a LIE to believe!!!!!!!!!! This LIE has caused so much wreckage in my walk with the LORD, ya girl is still trying to clean house from this one. I AM BACK to blogging ( uh, yea, a day early :). I am so thankful to the LORD for what He has revealed to me. I must confess I did use the computer a couple of times this week to check my yahoo account . Anyway, I was just telling Delta the other night after our bible study, that practicing self control with my computer/blog has caused me to unintentionally use self control in the area of food. Talk about how one sin leads to another. I was too through with that one.. wow... the LORD Is indeed good my friends. The time I usually use on the computer, I used it to work out, do some extra reading, visit friends, rest from girls camp, pray for our bible studies and neighborhood, ect.. ( notice I did not say clean my house..hmmmm working on that one) I have so much going on, I was amazed at how much time I spent up late at night or early in the morning trying to read all twenty something blogs I have links to... ( you know how we do, we read a blog, then click on the comment link, then read ALL the comments, then click on the persons blog who made the most interesting comment.. then read her blog.. then out click on the links posted on that blog, ect, ect, ect) clearly.. i was on this thing for hours!!

I am thankful for the lesson of sin the LORD has convicted me of. My heart is deceitful, and loves sin. If I don't go to war with sin, it will overcome me.. I had become a slave, back in bondage to the very thing that Christ broke me free of. I kept feeding my desire to be on the computer, to eat certain foods, to say things I shouldn't say, to think things I shouldn't think.. But, now, I really do believe the LORD has given me a taste of victory to teach me and show me that it is SO POSSIBLE to walk in obedience to HIM under HIS power. Just as Delta and I discussed with our girls in bible study Wed. night ( oh, cant wait to write about that one!! ) confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart that Jesus is LORD is giving over to HIM all the rights in this life you think you have. Jesus can't be LORD and you still do what you want.. There is only ONE master, ONE Ruler in this kingdom and baby it ain't you.. I get it, surrendering to Christ daily is what I have to do.. I can't do this thing on my own. I have to let Him control, my actions, my thought, and my desires. What a sweet reminder to me to PREACH The GOSPEL to myself daily, this message isn't just for the lost it's for the saved as well. What joy, freedom and relief it is to be in Jesus!!!!
Thanks friends for all your encouraging comments and prayers.. ( *, LOL.. Zinnada am too through with how you began that comment.. LOL.. thanks for the accountability sister :)

Ro 12:3

Self Control

". . . the desire for self-control must be accompanied by a plan. If self-control demands thoughtfulness, and if it ultimately declares war on both our own flesh and Satan’s temptations, then there must be a strategy. If our battle was against an insignificant foe, then planning would be unnecessary."
- Ed Welch, "Self Control: The Battle Against 'One More'" (not available online, published in The Journal of Biblical Counseling 19/2 [Winter 2001]: 24-31)

Currently I am reading Feminine Appeal ( for the 2nd Time) by Carolyn Mahaney with a couple of girls over the phone once a week. This past week we read the chapter on Self Control. Again, I have been convicted over the lack of self control I have in many areas of my life. I love control, I want what I want, when I want and how I want it, and if I don't get it my desires/attitude is ready to wage war at all who is in my way. I know, its terrible, but I have to be honest about the sin that is in my heart.. that's what it is sin. At the end of the chapter, Carolyn gives a exhortation to withdraw doing something that you can't image being without for a week. I have accepted this challenge, and as a result, I will not be on my computer for the next week or two. i don't believe it is a sin in and of it self to blog or to spend time on the computer, but for me I have noticed after my time with the LORD its the first thing I think about, sometimes before spending time in the word. In my heart, when the LORD revealed how important this was to me, my mind immediately went to ROmans 1 where the LORD was talking about .."they worshiped the creation instead of the creator"... I think denying my self of this time will help me to remember that this is just something to be used to POINT others to the LORD.. MY desire is to fall more and more in love with the savior and not the things of this world

Please pray that the LORD would reveal to me any other sin or some part of His character that I don't know much about. Also, please continue to pray for Delta and I every Wednesday as we have our teen girl bible study here at my home. Maybe D will post updates about the bible study on her blog. :) Catch ya later my friends!

1 Corinthians 6:12-20

"All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything. "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food"—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, "The two shall become one flesh." But he who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

"Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control."-Prov. 25:28

Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."

A Day To Remember

My birthday was the most emotional day I have ever had. ( I think) In spite of the spiritual warfare i believe I was involved in, the LORD still wanted to show me how much He cared and loved me ( thanks for the reminder D). D and I started the day off with our Girls Camp, we decided at the last minute to take the girls skating with the guys. It was fun! I love skating, its was my favorite thing to do in Chicago on saturday nights!! Anyway, first sign of the LORD showing me He wanted this day filled with joy for me was when the owner of the rink ( who goes to church with us) announced it was a birthday today and wanted the birthday girl to skate to the middle of the rink so that all the kids could sing happy birthday to me. ( now that I think about it.. I wonder how he knew it was my b-day?? ) i go out to the middle of the rink and half of the kids from Westcott skate around me to sing happy birthday.. I couldn't help but feel emotional.. I love those kids so much, and to see the love and smiles they had on their faces for me just encouraged my socks off. You know in the hood, TRUST is a big thing. It takes time, and energy, and trust in the LORD to show these little ones that you are not fill with broken promises. That you will not abandon them, that you do really love them, and that you really do care about how they feel. I pray that the LORD continues to use CGM to be a light to this neighborhood.
Moving on, we later loaded up all the cars and headed to Friendship Church. Friendship is a church/homeless shelter that ministers to the poor in the montgomery area. The staff there cooks for the guys camp every thursday and so Bk and Kevin asked us to join them with all the girls. That was great! Lunch was so good and the kids really enjoyed it!
A very close friend of mine works there as a cook, she informed the staff there that it was my birthday and before you know it.. I have this guy singing Happy BIrthday to me through a cone!!! It was so sweet and funny! They even surprised me with a cake!!
Wow, Jesus!

To bring this post to a close, this surprise was the biggest and the one I enjoyed the most.. ( no offense to all those that had something to do with the others :)
My husband told me to be ready by 6pm because we had special reservations somewhere..hmmmm
SO, he told me that we were going to the movies and I watched him pay for our tickets on line, so i was wondering why is he rushing? We dropped Kaiya off down the street at the Kelly ( who are forever faithful in babysitting for us, we love them so much) and while dropping her off, kevin asks Delta to blind fold me.. wait.. are you serious??? Of course I am asking all type of questions, so nosey .. my husband asked me to chill and relax and that we will be there in a few.. Okay, I'm still wondering, why is this boy blind folding me to take me to the movies???

SO, in the car, I can hear him taping all that we are talking about, he just started asking me random questions about what I thought was going on. THat was fun... Finally we stop and he tells me that we have to stop to get gas. I am left sitting in the car for about 6 minutes, I hear voices but not sure who they are.. then I hear him sound as if he is placing the nozzle inside the gas tank... Then I hear him 2 minutes later walk over to my side of the car and open the door. He tells me that there are people in the gas station that wanted to see me, because according to him, they could not believe i was blind folded ( ok, as I type, I am thinking, clearly the LORD did not want me to know what was going on, because I cant believe I fell for that one )

I get out of the car and kevin guides me to where he wants me to go. Not realizing it then, we stepped onto some grass and I hear the sound of splashing water.. what in the world is going on??? As we get closer, I hear someone playing a keyboard and singing the most beautiful song I have heard ( it was an original that she had written her self). Kevin sits me down, takes my shoes off and then he removes my blind fold..
I open my eyes and I beheld the most romantic scene that I have ever experienced. We are outside at one of the most beautiful and peaceful parks in montgomery.. This area is filled with big trees, a water fountain, and plush grass. I am sitting on a blanket surrounded by candles and live music! oh, it was so sweet!! I could not believe that he would do this for me.. I was in tears, like I just could not believe this..
There on the blanket, I had a fresh bouquet of multi color roses and a gourmet dinner. My friend that I told you about that worked at Friendship church is in culinary school so you can just image what dinner taste like. She had there waiting for us to eat and enjoy, as an appetizer fresh shrimp marinating in a Creole sauce, and for the main dish- Fresh steam broccoli, macaroni salad, rolls and Crab legs with a special butter sauce for dipping. yum!! I love CRAB!! And kevin knew that, he did such an outstanding job in the details.. he is so detailed oriented! The girls left us to enjoy our time together and it was so sweet. The park that we sat at was set up to look just like the place we had our first official date. My husband, I mean, I cant even begin to talk about how much I love him. What a servant!!

Five minutes or so before we were done eating, our friend/cook returned and take up all our things and clean up so that we could head to the movies.. it was such a relaxing, romantic night!! THank you so much Kevin for being such a representation of Christ for me. In your servanthood and thoughtfulness there is no room for me to believe that CHrist is not thinking about me and not singing over me with joy. Your sacrificial love throughout our marriage, provokes me to cling to CHRIST and not the things of this world. What a joy, and privilege to know that I have this life to spend with you here on earth, and look forward to the life in eternity.. I love you so much. Thank you for having great patience with me, and loving me in spite of my sin! I pray that we do not WASTE our Marriage, by not living out the gospel in our every day lives. THank you for making my 30th birthday one to remember :)

3-0 and my NANO!!

Its my birthday today! I cant believe that I am 30! wow!!! My life before Christ was such a mess..promiscuous, drugs, gangs... I never thought I would live to see 25! God has been so good to me! I am so thankful that I serve a Savior who is real, understanding, forgiving and Sovereign!! Bible study with the girls last night was so awesome. the LORD is really doing something in the hearts of my friends.. I love each of those girls as if they were my own..They were so real and honest about their beliefs on GOD, the bible, and Jesus. Our study last night was called "Why investigate/ develop a relationship with God"?
so you can image what the conversation was about.. WE had so much fun!! They are too silly!

Thank you so much for praying for us, please continue to do so. I believe the LORD is answering those prayers..
